The
goal of this workshop is to provide pastoral and lay
spiritual leadership of the local church with a practical
understanding of the role, responsibilities, and
relationships of lay leaders and their pastor as seen in
the New Testament and applied to the culture and times in
which we live.
Why a Deacon / Elder Seminar?
If we do not understand the nature and
purpose of our relationships, roles, and responsibilities
as spiritual leaders in the church, and seek to develop
these, we will never see our churches become what God has
planned for the local church to be and do. Confusion
and conflict in this area has led to statistics such as
these:
- 80% of pastors & 84% of their spouses are discouraged or dealing with depression. (Physician Magazine, 2000)
- 40% have serious conflict with a church member at least once a month – chief cause of resignations.
- 90% said the hardest thing about ministry is dealing with uncooperative people in the church.
- Barna Research: Average church expects the pastor to be proficient in 16 different forms of ministry. “This is a formula for failure.”
(George Barna quote)
Topics will include:
- Understanding church structure in the New Testament and how it should influence the church today.
- The relationships, roles, & responsibilities of Pastors, Deacons/Elders according to the New Testament.
- Identifying your leadership style.
- Principles for spiritually healthy leadership relationships.
- Managing conflict in your church
